Most Common Reason USCIS And Embassies Use DNA Testing

One of the most asked questions from families given the option to use DNA Testing to provide as proof of a biological relationship with a family member is, why do I have perform a DNA test, this is my child/ren? A question asked by 99% of mothers who undergo DNA Testing for immigration purposes.

Although, I do not know the specific answer immigration would give but I would bet it be something along the lines of protecting the country of fraudulent behavior that may impact the quality of life in America.

What is required to perform a DNA Test for immigration purposes?

From my understanding, having had family members who were also subjected to going through this process . First, families must find a laboratory who provides American Association of Blood Banks(AABB) Parentage Testing Lab.

Second, after finding the lab online, call them to schedule your appointment.

Third, the lab will coordinate the appointment details both domestic and international. This is (international) testing, of course, if you have a family member in another country. Once all of the samples have been collected they will sent to the lab.

Please note: International DNA tests can take up to an average of 8 weeks to be completed. Please make sure to ask the representative about the turnaround time for your country.

Finally when the results are complete, a copy is shipped to the petitioner and another copy is to the requesting immigration service center (USCIS or Embassy) that requested proof of biological relationship.

In closing, families who are asked to perform immigration DNA testing should make sure that the lab handling their testing is an AABB Accredited Laboratory as I alluded to earlier. I had to repeat this because it is truly important. These are the only labs recognized by Embassies and USCIS. Another thing that should be considered is your communication with the lab you are considering. The ability to have someone explain to you the process your family is about to undertake is a good sign of communication with that lab. This also may give your family more confidence that your DNA testing will be handled professionally. One of the best DNA testing companies our family has had with our two experiences in dealing with this company is AIDC. They specialize in immigration testing, paternity testing and all other types of DNA testing services.
